I'm rather surprised by how white the light is from the red and blue LEDS. and it doesn't give off huge amounts of heat like other grow lights.
Within a few weeks of using two of these on an 8-foot tall bird of paradise plant I've had in my house for 9 years, it went from putting out one shoot every few months, to a burst of 6 or 7 shoots, over and over again. Right now I count 31 stalks of beautiful green leaves, where before there was only 3 or 4. I am going to try using these in a small greenhouse this winter to grow tomatoes and herbs (and am ordering two more of them). LOVE the low electricity usage as well, though be aware in the USA you have to go find some 110 to 220v transformers before you can use them (argh).
would prefer white lights
I've owned 4 of these panels for about 2 years. Finally had the chance to try them with "Tiny Tom" tomatoes. I'm using the panels as side lights (fill lights) as I'm using the ChinaVasion UFO LED growing lights on top.
At 18 - 20$ ea they are a good price and perform well. Big LED's and little heat.
I've used all kinds of lighting systems in the past. (Lots of experience) This year (2011) the plan is to grow SMALL tomatoes.. Tiny Toms are good for growing in containers. Right now I have over a hundred fruits in my little bushes. The LED light panels help because the plants continue to BUSH out.
