I regard them as splash proof not water proof. Chinavasion stock spare Xtreme latches but not the Poseidon latch. After 16 months the clasp that closes the camera connections and seals it to make it waterproof broke. It is cheap plastic and you can see that it has snapped at the weakest point. If it was made of metal, it would have lasted much, MUCH longer. Also, the battery life could be better. I need to carry a spare battery to allow it to last one of my longer bike rides. It rained on these cameras for about 1 hour and they kept on working. the SD Card is hard to insert, you have to push really hard to get it locked in the slot. But that is a small problem with these cameras that I can overlook. |

I have used for capturing videos underwater too, in depths more than 5 meters with no damage what so ever. It also floats at sea. The 60 fps is a great feature too, if you capture high speed action, which later you can make it a smoother slow motion than the 30 fps footage. The 12 Mp photo camera is more than great, even though you have to look for open space photos, due to fish eye effect. Having jack for external mike is a plus. Equipped with standard Lithium battery also a plus, cause you can replace it when it fails. The sound volume is extremely high, especially is you leave the display door opened. If you do, there is no way to remove the distortion from the sound later. Best sound achieved with an external mike. |

The Xdreme will continue to have a long life with those of us who need water-resistance without an add-on case. Techmoan.com product reviews are a great help in sorting through the products being offered at any particular point in time. The Techmoan reviews of the last three cameras in the Crocolus/Xdreme family make it easy to select camera models well suited to many types of applications. ChinaVasion Checkout was too much like getting mired in an internet scam. Needing to accept the ChinaVasion newsletter was much more involvement than I wished to have with a company. I just wanted to buy one camera to run some tests. At checkout PayPal denied the transaction with ChinaVasion, but authorized two other purchases from other firms later in the evening (including the eBay purchase of the camera I had been trying to purchase directly from ChinaVasion). Price is less important than a smooth purchasing process. If the products are good and the service is good, customers will seek communication and be willing to receive newsletters, email, etc. I would like to do business with ChinaVasion in the future, but do not want to become a distributor or volume purchaser at this time. |
by Steve Rayden USA on 2013-08-29 18:05:47 | | This is an excellent camera, especially for the money. I took it with me on a motorcycle trip to Northern Canada and Alaska. I had this camera up on my helmet for about 12000 miles in the sun, rain, wind, bugs and dust. I recorded about 50 hours of 1080 HD footage. Video quality came out great. The sound without external microphone is a bit of a bummer, but I suppose since mic is hidden, how could it be any better. So the video quality at 1080 is awesome. A tiny bit of a fish eye, very very little at 1080. It also takes great pictures. Pictures however show more of a fish eye, then 1080 video, so I am extracting pictures put of the videos with a movie software. All in all, the camera performed very well, never failed. Battery lasts about 2-2.5 hours with the screen off. I had a spare battery just in case anyway. I did notice then when I connect this camera to the TV via HDMI, no sound is transferred to the TV. |

When it getting darker, the quality of 1080p will drop into bad quality. |
