Bought the 10lb 8x strand braid and was all ready to put it on my reel when I decided to do a really quick weight test. Put a 5lb weight on the line...simple knot. Line broke with a slight shake. This line absolutely doesn't hold it's claimed break strength.
To all of the surf fishermen who are thinking of buying this, here’s a good breakdown of the line here. The cast-ability of this line is good, except for one drawback: wind knots. Wind knots are much easier to get with this line, while a higher quality line, like powerpro or tufline would not have this issue. Strength of the line is as listed, no problems with line breakage or wear and tear. Overall, a good easy fix if you need line, but if you go fishing every day, you’ll get tired of the repetitive involuntary knotting of the line when you cast.
Feels like a strong line, but started off by staining my fingers, rag and rod guides. I can only image what it will happen when it touches water. I think I’m going to return it.
This line works fine. However, the coloring they use certainly isn't permanent. When you handle it more than a couple of times, you get major stains on your fingers. When I put this line on my reel and used my fingers to provide tension during spooling, I noticed that my fingers were almost black from the color coming off. Never had this problem with Spider Wire. Seems durable, but if the color is coming off this quickly, it makes me question that assumption...
The braided line is strong, however the black line is leaving a black dye on my hands and clothes. Not sure what is causing the color to remove from the line but is not working out.
